Welcome to the trophy guide for True Fear. This can also be considered a walkthrough and may be used for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam. Achievements for Steam and Xbox are in almost all cases the same as the PlayStation 4 Trophies. A roadmap is provided in the stages below.

Follow us on twitter for the latest news and giveaways.

Stage 1 – 1st Playthrough + collect everything.

This game is notorious for it’s All Puzzles Under 2m timer making it an “impossible plat” and infamous difficulty. Ignore all of that, don’t listen to what you read on the internet. This guide will easily earn you all the trophies without problems and conflicts.

With that out of the way, It is recommended you do True Fear in 2 playthroughs. This is because to do the ALL puzzles and hidden object scenes under 2m, you’ll be using an exploit and that will nullify your Hooked? trophies. Besides the Hooked? trophies, you will earn EVERY other trophy during your first playthrough.

There will be no walkthrough for this game, choosing a lower difficulty the game will actually tell you which locations you need to go and interactions will be sparkly. So play the game for yourself, it deserves it too! There are highly missable trophies though. But every trophy that needs it has a Point of No Return written in them! So refer to What Really Happened. III, Sharp-Sighted. III. How do you do it? III. and Collector. III. for all the missable notes. Beside that, never press R3 at any point during your entire gameplay. So have fun completing the main game and the bonus chapter!

Stage 2 – 2nd Playthrough

Your sole purpose of this 2nd playthrough is the Hooked? trophies. Using the surefire method of obtaining the timed activity puzzles in Playthrough 1 will nullify the timed trophies, this is why you’ll run a 2nd playthrough. Luckily because all the no skipping trophies are unlocked, you can play on the lowest difficult and abuse the hell out of that feature. Just remember before completing the game in one sitting that ‘Hooked? II’ has popped! So stop after the 4th Chess Piece if it hasn’t!

Trophies

 Boss.
Earn all Trophies.

 Don’t listen to dolls. III
Finish all Acts without using Hints.

Hints in True Fear is a feature activated by pressing R3 outside of puzzles and hidden object scenes. For this trophy, absolutely do not push R3 ever.

 Yes you can.
Finish the main game on Expert difficulty.

Difficulties in True Fear display the game differently. Expert will have no guides on where to go, no sparkles, different recharges for hints, etc. Luckily, the trophy states “Finish” not play the whole game. So this means RIGHT before you complete the game, switch to Expert and this will still pop. For reference, I switched to expert after I picked up the last Chess Piece and Started the Cardinal Directions Puzzle.

 Hooked? III
Finish the game without stopping.

What this trophy entails is that you do not close the game at all. You play from start to finish in one sitting. Pausing the game, or taking a break is fine but do not close the game. This guide recommends 2 playthroughs, so playing on the easiest difficult allows you to abuse the skipping feature making this trophy a lot more tolerable. Remember to pair this with ‘Hooked? II.’ This means that if you’ve found all 4 chess pieces and ‘Hooked? II.’ hasn’t popped yet, then waste some time and keep the game running until it does.

If you want it done… III
Finish all hidden object scenes without using any Hints.

Skipping hidden object scenes in True Fear is a feature activated by pressing R3. For this trophy, absolutely do not push R3 ever.

 What really happened. II
Find every Fact in one Act.

Refer to ‘What really happened. III’ for more details.

How do you do it? III
Solve all puzzles in less than 2 minutes.

This is the toughest trophy in this game. But it is very exploitable, and without the exploit you’d need the luck of gods to pull this off due to the time limit due to one single puzzle’s demands.

Following suit with the hidden object scenes, you’ll want to save and close the game before each puzzle. Quit and upload your save, so you can re-download it if you mess up. Most puzzles are easily doable under 2m your first attempt except for a few. There are 2 notorious ones. They’ll be explained now.

The painting puzzle requires you to properly match all the colors which is very hard the first time to do, it’ll require you to memorize color locations so you can rush through and paint them all the first time you’re on that color. Being there are 4 colors, you’ll want to make sure you only change colors 4 times, back-tracking to a missed color will delay the time greatly. The 2nd tip is do not take time to click on each paint bucket! use the R1/L1 to rotate through to the next color, this will save mere seconds but those seconds are vital!

The bane of the puzzles, the crux of the plat… The Atomic Matching Puzzle. This by normal means is Highly Unlikely that you’ll do this in under 2m… unless you exploit it. The timer for puzzles will suspend when you open the XMB/PS4 Menu! So you’ll need a pen and paper for this unfortunately. Draw the grid on paper that’ll match the game. You’ll start at the top right so flip over the tiles going in order from right to left, drop down a row then left to right, etc. AS SOON as you flip over 2 cards immediately remember the number AND suit then press the home button on your controller. Write them down on the corresponding square on your grid. Continue to do so until you have ALL the locations mapped out. Then you’ll have to match them all very wisely! Since your last square will be the bottom left, Match that square first! AS SOON as both cards start to flip hit that home button again! Look at the surrounding squares of the card you JUST flipped and figure out which is closest and would be fastest to pair up. Rinse and repeat to finish this puzzle in under 2m. For reference, using this method, I got it my first try. So it’s a heavily reliable method in my opinion.

Besides the 2 puzzles noted above, nothing else will be difficult, there may be one or two you have to reload but nothing hair-pulling like the above ones normally are.

The key important note is in the main menu you can go into the options and check the in-game trophy tracker. Since you will not be using skip make sure your ‘all puzzles under 2m’ marker is at the same progress as your ‘Solve all puzzles without skip’.
If your no skip tracker is ahead of your under 2m marker, then you didn’t do it under 2m and need to reload.

 Collector. II
Find half of the collectible figurines.

Refer to ‘Collector. III’ for more details.

 Sharp-Sighted. III
Finish all hidden object scenes in less than two minutes each.

There are 2 ways to tackle hidden object scenes, and you change between these in the settings. For the sake of this guide and ease of earning this, leave it as the default setting.

All hidden object scenes are depicted by a greyscale static overlay of a scene, clicking on it will start the hidden object scene. Most are doable under 2m your first attempts, but some are a bit more intricate than others. You’ll want to exploit these like you would the puzzles.

Every time you encounter one the greyscaled static settings, quit to the main menu so it saves. Close the game and back up the save. Open the and attempt to complete it under 2m, if you do great, if you don’t then re-download your save.

The key important note is in the main menu you can go into the options and check the in-game trophy tracker. Since you will not be using skip make sure your ‘all hidden object scenes under 2m’ marker is at the same progress as your ‘Solve all hidden object scenes without skip’.
If your no skip tracker is ahead of your under 2m marker, then you didn’t do it under 2m and need to reload.
